Futuristic trip hop, meditative IDM, singer-songwriter, jazz and electronic pop are just a few key words for the debut album “RECOUPIA” by MANX, which lands today, October 27.
“I went straight into the darkness and found something beautiful. The record explores the theme of ‘vegetability’. It’s a story of healing – how everything burns down and builds up in a cyclical movement”.
MANX would like to spread out and refurnish – because, why not? Aside from musical influences such as Aphex Twin, Björk, Oklou and FKA twigs, MANX has the stomach to dance across several unexpected genres and takes inspiration from many corners of the world. It doesn’t shy away from defying both pop culture frameworks as well as listener expectations. It’s soulful pop mixed with the finest and twisted electronics. “The song “SLF LV” is a musical waiting room on the record. The vibe is transitional periods when you’re getting ready for a new chapter and need something kind and encouraging to dance to. A soundtrack from life’s start menu“, says MANX about the focus song and continues about the album: “During the pandemic, creation became my shelter full of nourishment. I want to tell stories to us through music. There are many of us who are lost and through my artistry I want to offer a ticket to the world of fantasy where everything is possible”.
The Gothenburg producer and artist, Maria Lakatos, started the artist project MANX in 2019 after having for many years figured under the name “The Naima Train”. Right from the start, the idea was to open up a space to fill with your own fictional world based on daydreams and really rough synesthesia. After recording her own music for many years, Maria has cultivated an originality that now lives as an ingrained DNA in MANX.
